Furnishing Your Bedroom: 7 Tips For More Coziness

The bedroom is all about rest and relaxation: this is where we process the impressions of the day and dream through the night on cozy pillows. In fact, we spend around a third of our day in this room – reason enough to pay special attention to bedroom furnishings and drawers. Our guide explains how to turn the bedroom into a cozy oasis of well-being and what you should bear in mind when furnishing it.

The Right Planning

As with any design project, planning is the essential first step when designing a bedroom. Consider who will be using the room and their specific needs. Will the closet need to be included in the space, or is there a separate dressing area? Should the room feature a desk or perhaps a cozy reading nook?

Answering these questions will give you a clearer vision of the room’s design. This planning stage also simplifies furniture selection, allowing you to create a preliminary shopping list and avoid unnecessary or mismatched purchases.

FInd Your Personal Bedroom Style

Before you start furnishing your bedroom, you should ask yourself what furnishing style you want. After all, the room concept should ultimately look harmonious, with furniture and accessories forming a coherent ensemble. Should it be straightforward and minimalist like the Scandinavian style or would you prefer a rustic country house look? Is the midcentury look with vintage furniture the right choice or would you prefer to bring a natural boho flair into your home?

If you’re still not quite sure about your interior design style, you can use a collection of ideas or a moodboard to gain clarity. Whether it’s snippets from fashion, art or home magazines, photos or stoffe – collect whatever you like. The internet also offers an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration, for example on blogs, social media such as Pinterest or in the lookbooks of your favorite manufacturers. With the help of a collage, you can visualize your living style by collecting different ideas and combining them into an overall picture. This often reveals certain color, material, furniture, and material preferences that you can use as a guide when designing your bedroom.

Feel-Good Colors And Materials

Hardly anything influences the mood and effect of rooms as much as colors. For example, a bedroom in dark tones can radiate a sense of security, while light colors tend to convey a feeling of space. How much color you feel comfortable with in the bedroom depends on the individual.

However, the general rule is: less is more! Ideally, two to three main colors should dominate and be repeated throughout the room.

The right balance is also crucial for the wall color, as the room should above all radiate calm and relaxation. Painting all the walls in a bright color can quickly become overwhelming. If you do decide on an intense color, you should only paint one wall with it and leave the others white. You can be a little more generous with soft, pastel shades. blue, green or gray tones have an atmospheric and relaxing effect in the bedroom. Soft beige or earth tones are also suitable.

Just like the colors used, the materials should also be matched to the room concept. Do you want a warm look dominated by wood and other natural materials? Or would you prefer an industrial flair with lots of glass and metal elements? To create a calm room impression, you should also aim for uniformity here and not mix too many different things together.

From The Bed To The Reading Corner: The Most Important Furniture For The Bedroom

The bed is the most important piece of furniture in the bedroom, as it not only determines the impression the room makes, but also determines the quality of sleep.

When choosing a bed frame, personal taste is crucial: should the bed be with or without a headboard? Should it be made of upholstered fabric, wood or metal?

The selection of different models is extremely diverse, but always depends on the room size: If the room measures less than 16 square meters, you should choose a bed that is as frameless as possible and a maximum width of 160 cm, as it looks more filigree and does not overload the room. If you have a lot of space, you can easily choose a wide bed or double bed and select the mattress(es) accordingly. However, you should also keep an eye on the dimensions in this case if, for example, a wardrobe is to be integrated into the room.

Once you have decided on a bed, the next step is to find the best position in the room: In front of the window, against the wall or in the middle of the room? Ideally, the bed should be positioned against a wall with a view of the room door, as this conveys a feeling of security. But other positions are also possible. You can find the best variant for you by trying it out, for example by lying on the floor in different directions and looking at the room from different perspectives.
